The Caribbean Islands Kidney Center (formerly known as the Virgin Islands Kidney Center) is a wholly owned subsidiary of HealthQuest, LLC, a Virgin Islands company. Its purpose is to provide comprehensive health care to patients who suffer from kidney disease in the relaxing, warm climate of the Eastern Caribbean. For more information read our Patient Forms and Policies and our Links. If you are interested in receiving treatment at the Caribbean Kidney Center please let us know as soon as possible so the arrangements can be completed well in advance of your trip.
At the Caribbean Kidney Center, our Medical Director has committed the facility to reducing the number of persons in the Territory who require dialysis as a result of kidney failure. This will be achieved through its emphasis on the early detection and intervention in patients with renal disease. Because the prime cause of renal disease in the Territory is hypertension and diabetes mellitus, this population has been especially targeted for aggressive treatment and education.
Education is the primary deficiency identified – education of the patient about his or her disease, its potential clinical course with and without intervention and the "why" of the various interventions, and education of local physicians on early recognition of renal failure and more importantly, early referral of patients to Nephrologists.
To more effectively pursue this Education objective, the Malvina C. Gardiner Institute for Renal Medicine, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing education to renal patients is being formed and will have this objective as its primary raison d'etre.
Recognizing that some patients will inevitably develop renal failure requiring dialysis, The Caribbean Kidney Center is the premiere out patient dialysis provider in the Territory and the Caribbean, offering both Hemodialysis and Peritoneal dialysis.
